John Beattie - Executive Producer, Global News (Toronto)
John Beattie is a 3-time Emmy® Award winning news producer with more than 30 years of experience in broadcast journalism. Mr. Beattie is currently the executive producer for Global News (Toronto) and his résumé includes such notable credits as producer of ABC’s World News Tonight, CTV’s Sunday Edition and CBC Television’s The Journal.
Michael Scott Sheerin, Assistant Professor - Broadcast and New Media
Michael Scott Sheerin is an assistant professor at the School of Journalism
and Mass Communication at Florida International University. A professional in
the broadcast and new media industry for the past 20 years, Michael has
developed interactive TV prototypes for Disney and has worked as a designer,
animator, art director, creative director, commercial director and producer
for such clients as ABC, U.S. Armed Forces, DirecTV, J. Walter Thompson and
Nickelodeon.
Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, MTV Host
Aliya-Jasmine Sovani shares hosting duties with a troop of other MTV in Canada Hosts on the network's flagship program, MTV Live, where she has interviewed big-name celebs like Kanye West, Brad Pitt, Dave Navarro and Perry Ferrell. As a part of her hosting duties on MTV Live, Aliya-Jasmine hosts a re-occurring home design segment called Budget Cribs and works as a producer for many social issue segments on the show.
Born and raised in Ottawa, ON, this unabashed hockey fan studied visual arts, a program that allowed her to study abroad in exciting and culturally-rich locales like New York, Los Angeles and Italy. After graduating from high school, she received her Bachelor of Arts with a major in Broadcast Communications from the University of Ottawa.
Eager to dive into the world of television, this self-starter moved to Toronto for an internship at Fashion Television and worked part-time as a cable-wrangler for Star! TV. Her hard work paid off and she soon became a field producer and host for BPM: TV and later a producer for MuchMusic.
